Eight Timorese to Undertake Internship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia for Three Months

Dili, August 19, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment (SEFOPE) held a farewell ceremony for eight interns who will depart for a three-month professional internship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The farewell event was held at SEFOPE’s VIP Hall in Caicoli on Monday.

The Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment, Rogério Araújo Mendonça, stated that today SEFOPE organized the farewell for eight interns who will carry out a three-month internship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, following the training programs opened over the past three months for young people to participate both domestically and abroad.

“As we all know, in the past three months we have opened training opportunities for young people to take part in programs both inside the country and overseas. In this regard, SEFOPE, together with promoting entities such as Dili Development Acampany Lda, worked hand in hand to recruit our youth who wish to work with the company DDA, Lda.,” said the Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment, Rogério Araújo Mendonça.

The Secretary further explained that it is not only about providing young people with direct access to jobs, but also ensuring they participate in a three-month training program in Yogyakarta before returning to work with the referred company.

Speaking as the representative of the interns, Jefri de Jesus Cardoso expressed his great joy in receiving training opportunities from SEFOPE and Timor Plaza, which provided this chance for all Timorese youth to take part in internships abroad.

“We applied through the proper process and finally obtained good results that gave me this opportunity to join the three-month internship in Yogyakarta. I will participate as an Office Management Intern, while my colleagues will be placed in different areas,” said the intern representative, Jefri de Jesus Cardoso.

He added that through this opportunity from SEFOPE, they will be able to learn new things, gain valuable experience, and strengthen their skills. Upon returning to Timor-Leste, they will share this knowledge with others, particularly in the field of management.

In conclusion, about 200 applications were submitted, but after the selection process only eight candidates were chosen, consisting of six men and two women who will join the three-month internship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. They will take part in areas such as electricity, forklift repair, lift repair, hospitality, and carpentry.
