Dili, 11 February 2026 (Média Democracia) – Fundasaun Mahein met with the General Commander to discuss public concerns regarding the recruitment process for PNTL 2025 candidate vacancy.
Executive Director of Fundasaun Mahein Nelson Belo said the meeting between FM and the General Commander aimed to discuss current issues happening in the PNTL 2025 recruitment.
“We expressed our suggestion to the Command, how the institution can continue to perform its role well and complaints from the public asking the Ministry of Interior to respond and create a mechanism to accumulate these complaints. This way, trust from the public in the PNTL maintained.” Said Executive Director of Fundasaun Mahein after meeting with PNTL General Commander, Police General Henrique da Costa, at PNTL General Headquarters Caicoli, Tuesday (10/02)
Executive Director of Fundasau Mahein added, Fundasaun Mahein didn’t make recommendations regarding PNTL recruitment vacancies because the meeting was a courtesy, so they didn’t make recommendations to the General Command, but their opinion is that the recruitment should continue with the existing commissions.
The Executive Director Affirms, the issue that concern the public is that Ministry of Interior should do its job, explaining how these allegations emerged and the Ministry’s competence to respond. But Fundasaun Mahein prefers the Government create an independent commission to investigate clearly the recruitment process for new PNTL members. Because currently, the public is very concerned about the recruitment process with irregularities, so suspend the process for now.
“To identify properly and seriuosly, an independent commission should be created to conduct a through investigation, so the truth, suspention can be found, as we said earlier, should based on investigation, and we think the government an independent commission to investigate, hear the allegations registered by the public.” Stated the Executive Director of Fundasau Mahei
Director reaffirms that the commission should consist of whoever, but professional with credibility, so they can record allegations from the public and provide solutions from a political and legal aspect.
