PNTL Allocates US$43 Million for Salaries and US$5 Million for Operations in the 2026 Budget

Dili, 13 March 2026 (Média Democracia) – The 2026 budget for the National Police of Timor-Leste allocates around 43 million dollars for Police salaries and benefits, and 5 million dollars for goods and services and minor capital, such as vehicle maintenance, fuel and office needs, to support operational work and guarantee public order and stability in Timor-Leste.

PNTL Administration Commander, Chief Superintendente José Soares, told journalists at the PNTL General Command that the 43 million dollars covers salaries and benefits, given the large number of police officers, including those deployed to four couuntries such as Indonesia, Portugal, Australia, and Malaysia.

He said this ensures stability in our country, contributing to Timor-Leste, which is now part of ASEAN, and also contributes to world peace, even as geopolitics is tense, with contestation between powerful states, but as a small nation, we must show ourselves to be filled with wisdom in the midst of peace.

After Commissioner Henrique da Costa opened, the finance administration department immediately handed over the budget book to the Municipal Commanders and Units.

Meanwhile, the objective of this meeting is for the General Command of the National Police of Timor-Leste to meet with municipal commanders, units, department heads, and directorates to distribute the fiscal budget book for 2026, so they know the budget allocation and can start executing programs and activities in each PNTL structure.

Municipal commanders, units, and departments can review the budget book assigned to them and make requests to the General Command, so it can be processed through relevant departments like finance to prepare CPVS for the procurement process.
