PNTL Detains JFdA Because of Involvement in Document Forgery Crime

Dili, August 12, 2026 (Media Democracia) – Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL), through the Criminal Investigation Service Directorate (DSIC – Portuguese acronym), executed a detention and search warrant, and detained suspect JFdA in Ainaro.

According to information that Media Democracia accessed on the official PNTL page, it states that the detention and search warrant was issued by the Dili District Court of First Instance with NUC: 0014/25.PGGCC, and the suspect with the initials JFdA was detained on Saturday (08/08) at around 2:02 PM in Lebumera Hamlet, Foho-Ailiku Village, Hatu-Udu Administrative Post, Ainaro Municipality.

The detention and search operation was carried out based on a warrant from the judicial authority, due to strong indications regarding allegations that suspect JFdA was involved in the crime of document forgery or aggravated technical notation, as provided for in Articles 303 and 304, paragraph 1, of the Timor-Leste Penal Code.

After DSIC executed the detention warrant and conducted a search at the suspect’s residence, it was completed and the suspect was immediately transported to Dili to continue the investigation process at the Criminal Investigation Service Directorate building, PNTL General Headquarters, Caicoli.

The suspect is also being held in the detention cell for 72 hours before being presented to the Dili District Court of First Instance for interrogation and for a decision to be made in accordance with legal provisions.

Then on Monday, (10/08/2026), the Dili District Court of First Instance, after conducting the interrogation process, decided to apply coercive measures of Identity and Residence Bond (TIR) and Periodic Presentation (AP), with the obligation for the suspect to present himself once every month at the nearest PNTL command building.

Therefore, the Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL), through the Criminal Investigation Service Directorate (DSIC – Portuguese acronym), continues to carry out criminal investigation work based on mandates and legal procedures, with respect for the rights and fundamental guarantees of all people, and ensures that the investigation and justice process proceeds in accordance with the law.
