Dili, June 17, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC), through the Head of Section and Communications Team, released its weekly report on natural disasters that occurred in Timor-Leste over the past week. The press conference was held at the APC hall in Caicoli, Dili, on Monday.
The Head of Communications Section (HCS), Genoveva Fernandes Almeida, stated that between 09-16 June 2025, APC registered a total of 22 affected households due to natural disasters that took place across six municipalities during the reporting week.
“During the natural disaster events in six municipalities, APC recorded 16 households meeting the emergency support criteria, with an additional 8 partially affected households. A total of 126 individuals were affected, and 2 people lost their lives. The municipal APC offices immediately provided emergency assistance to the victims of these natural disasters,” said Genoveva Fernandes Almeida.
She explained that APC teams deployed in the municipalities promptly carried out data verification and provided aid to victims through emergency packages prepared for each municipality.
Providing further details, she explained that in Baucau Municipality, Baucau Post, Bukoli Village, Lulik-Hein Sub-village: 1 house severely damaged by strong winds. Quelecai Post, Letemumo Village, Abu-matebian Sub-village: 1 house damaged by strong winds; Letenei Sub-village: 1 house severely damaged by strong winds. Venilale Post, Bahamori Village, Laku-uma Sub-village: 1 house damaged by strong winds. Baguia Post, Wakala Village, Uwakala Sub-village: 1 house severely damaged by strong winds, including Laresula Village, Lauhare Sub-village, where a young girl tragically died alongside her family.
She added, in Bobonaro Municipality, Atabae Administrative Post, Aidabaleten Village, Harame Sub-village: 1 house was completely destroyed by fire. In Ermera Municipality, Ermera Post, Talimoro Village, Moris-foun Sub-village: 1 house damaged by strong winds, receiving emergency assistance. Likisi Sub-village: 1 house was destroyed by fire. Poetete Village, Samatrae Sub-village: 1 house was displaced due to landslides. Mertutu Village, Railori Sub-village: 1 house damaged by strong winds. Laulara Village, Ervilhat Sub-village: 1 house damaged by strong winds, receiving emergency assistance. In Manufahi Municipality, Alas Post, Dotik Village, Lakaluan Sub-village: 4 houses affected by rising water levels. Mahakidan Village, Tahu-ben Sub-village: 4 houses affected by rising water levels. Betano Village, Silihasan Sub-village: 1 house received emergency assistance due to rising waters.
In Viqueque Municipality, Luka Village, Iramer Sub-village: a crocodile attack occurred, leaving 1 person missing and still not yet found. And, in the Special Administrative Region of Oecusse-Ambeno, Pante Makasar Sub-region, Costa Village, Xanane Sub-village: 1 house was completely destroyed by fire. Taiboko Village, Makelab Sub-village: 1 house was damaged by strong winds, receiving emergency assistance.
She reaffirmed that during these disaster events, the Civil Protection Authority quickly collected data and conducted verification to ensure that victims received emergency support and were evacuated to temporary shelters in unaffected communities. Once data verification is complete, APC will continue to provide both material and non-material support to victims of natural disasters in each municipality.
