Dili, 07 May 2026 (Media Democracia) – Members of FALINTIL–Timor-Leste Defence Force (F-FDTL), participate in the Final Planning Conference for the Multinational Exercise Trident Resolve.
The conference was held from May 4 to 6, 2026, in Jakarta–Banten, Indonesia, within the framework of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus Expert Working Group on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (ADMM-Plus EWG on HADR).
According to information accessed by Media Democracia on the official Defence portal, the F-FDTL delegation was led by the Head of the Civil-Military Cooperation Section, Lieutenant Colonel Laurentino Gusmão, accompanied by the 2nd Commander of the Naval Component, Commander Grad Nicolau Sousa, and the Head of the Land Component Operations Department, Major Nogueira Dias Quintas “Laranjina”.
F-FDTL’s participation in this conference is of high strategic importance, as it allowed for in-depth discussions on the National contribution to Exercise Trident Resolve, especially in priority areas such as Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), Military medical support, and cybersecurity.
Meanwhile, Exercise Trident Resolve will be held from September 21 to 26, 2026 in Banten province, Indonesia, with participation from ASEAN member states and partner nations under the ADMM-Plus EWG framework.
The objective of the exercise is to strengthen interoperability, improve multinational coordination, and enhance joint response capacity for natural disasters and complex emergency situations, including military medical and cyber components.
In addition, on the sidelines of the conference, the Timor-Leste delegation held bilateral meetings with the organizing committee, co-chaired by Singapore and New Zealand, as well as with the host nation, Indonesia, with the aim of identifying concrete opportunities for active participation and contributions by F-FDTL in the exercise.
The conference was conducted in an atmosphere of strong cooperation, constructive dialogue, and reinforced friendship and mutual trust among the participating states.
During their stay in Jakarta, the F-FDTL delegation received significant support from the Timor-Leste Defence Attaché to Indonesia, Colonel Renilde Guterres Corte Real e Silva and her team, through the provision of relevant information, accommodation arrangements, and transport, which contributed to the success of the delegation’s participation in the conference.
