Dili, January 31, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito Freitas met with President José Ramos-Horta to discuss Education services as well as Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN this year based on existing efforts.
In an interview with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito Freitas said that this meeting was to look further into services in the field of Education and Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN which will be carried out in the short term.
“As we saw earlier on January 30, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation through our Deputy Secretary General held a meeting with the Head of State, namely the President of the Republic to inform the working situation at the Education level in the Ministry that coordinates in several external politics. The President also reminded us in the changes that we are facing in leading, in global politics especially in the United States with their new President with politics that for the future have implications for Timor-Leste, other things related to our internal parties also preparing for ASEAN accession is very important that is why this was informed to the President so that it can obtain the necessary support in institutional consolidation and also strong cooperation of the Ministry to facilitate the work that has been done.” Said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation
He added, with the great hope of Timor Leste’s accession into ASEAN in 2025, the IX Government will strive hard to become a member of ASEAN.
This role in my opinion our Deputy Minister works hard, hopefully in 2025 we must work hard, the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and their entire structure and our society are prepare for it. The constitutional politics of the IX government give urgent priority to our Deputy Government must work hard so that we can become members of ASEAN.
