Youth Now Speaks Out, Because They didn’t Get Help from Youth Resistance

Dili, 04 March 2026 (Média Democracia) – Provedor of Human Rights and Justice (PDHJ), Virgílio Silva Guterres “Lamukan” stated that the state should look for veterans who are jobless like the elderly, so they can be taken care of. The state shouldn’t just pay, but should recognize them.

Provedor of Human Rights and Justice (PDHJ), Virgílio Silva Guterres added that this commemoration celebrates a historical moment that happened in the past and serves as a reference.

Celebration of this commemoration, we refelect on a moment in history that occurred in the past and serves as a reference for us to see our present and move forward, considering what they decided, Veterans should ask wheter the principles and commitments they decide upon in MAUBAI are being applied or not, because now with a spirit, veterans are the owners of Independence and the Nation.” said Provedor of Human Rights and Justice (PDHJ), Virgílio Silva Guterres.

Provedor of Human Rights and Justice, explain the state should look for veterans who jobless because they are elderly and priorotize them. The state should take on this responsibility because they fought for the state, and the state has established the Constitution, the President, Government, Parliament, and Tribunal. Therefore, the state should recognize its citizens who dedicated themselves to building this state.

On the other hand, youth resistance member João Soke feels proud to be able to express his opinion on this commemoration day and also wants to remind today’s youth to change their behavior.

”I am proud because I can speak and express my opinion to develop the nation, we are also proud to be able to live and accompany this nation, I always citicize that everyone should work hard to get better. The President also said the work for veterans is not yet done. We should continue to cultivate a sense of nationalism, not just with concrete actions.” said João Soke at MAKLN.

Youth Resistance member João Soke also wants to remind young people that independence wasn’t given freely, but 200 thousand people died for this land to be independent. He also wants to highlight the difference between the youth back then and now. Today’s youth, when speaking out, is because the previous youth didn’t get help, and veterans were left struggling. Now that it’s a good time with independence, we should take care of ourselves and the nation. The youth today should change their attitude and take on the nation’s responsibilities more than fighting for independence.
