Dili, January 16, 2025 (Média Democracia) – SEFOPE has established bilateral cooperation on labor mobility programs with the New Zealand government which has reached 75%, thus recruiting 27 Timor-Leste citizens to work in New Zealand.
SEFOPE, Rogerio Araujo Mendonça said that the process of the labor mobility program to New Zealand is at the 75% stage.
“I think we have 75% phase, part off the New Zealand government and the Timor-Leste government. Both governments have made a bilateral labor mobility program to send Timor-Leste workers to work in New Zealand,” said the Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employees (SEFOPE) to reporters at Timor Lodge.
In February a team will be transferred from New Zealand to Timor-Leste to undertake governance coordination through SEFOPE in preparation for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in 2025.
“The criteria for Timorese workers who will work in New Zealand are the same as in Australia, so SEFOPE has prepared requirements for Timorese candidates who take English language training courses.” He said.
Which will open the same vacancies as for more than 55 million Timorese candidates last year, regarding the signing day of the MoU is still in preparation when the team comes to Timor-Leste in February then at the end of February SEFOPE will visit New Zealand.
“This means that we have entered the stage of signing a memorandum of understanding with the New Zealand government, so that the New Zealand government can send a letter of quatation to the Timor-Leste government through SEFOPE to prepare 27 million Timor-Leste workers by 2024,” he added.
So, they came to Timor-Leste and Asia Pacific in total 10, but the New Zealand government said the big priority was the Timorese people in Timor-Leste.
Now in 2025, SEFOPE could increase the number of Timorese by more than 27 million. He gave the example of giving visas to entrepreneurs in Australia because the entrepreneurs were very happy and they needed to add a large number of Timorese workers.
