Dili, August 5, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC), through the Head of the Communication Section (XSK), held a press conference to report on natural disasters occurring between July 28 and August 4, 2025. The APC recorded a total of 9 houses affected by natural disasters across 7 municipalities during this one-week period. The press conference took place in the APC Hall in Caicoli, Dili, on Monday.
The Head of the Communication Section of APC, Genoveva Fernandes Almeida, stated that during this week, APC recorded 9 houses with damage across six severity criteria, with emergency assistance provided to 3, and a total of 40 individuals affected. APC branches in each municipality provided emergency support immediately to victims of the disasters.
“Within the one-week period in the 7 municipalities, the Civil Protection Authority, under the State Secretariat for Civil Protection, registered disasters in Aileu Municipality 1 house destroyed by fire, in Baucau Municipality 2 houses destroyed by strong wind and 1 house by fire, in Bobonaro Municipality 1 house destroyed by fire, in Dili Municipality 1 house destroyed by fire, in Viqueque Municipality 1 house destroyed by strong wind, and in the RAEOA (Oecusse Special Administrative Region) 1 house destroyed by fire,” said Genoveva Fernandes Almeida.
She further detailed that in Baucau Municipality, Baucau Vila Post, Bahu Village, Anaulu Hamlet, on July 29, 2025, one house was destroyed by fire and classified as totally destroyed. In Quelicai Post, Maluro Village, Loilubu-wagua Hamlet, on July 27, 2025, one house was destroyed by strong wind and classified as moderately damaged. In Laga Post, Libagua Village, Wibata Hamlet, on July 25, 2025, one house was destroyed by strong wind and classified as lightly damaged. In Aileu Municipality, Laulara Post, Tohu Village, Berlihu Hamlet, on July 28, 2025, one house destroyed by fire which classified as total damage. In Bobonaro Municipality, Bobonaro Post, Maleubu Village and Hamlet, on July 23, 2025, one house destroyed by fire also classified as total damage. In Dili, Vera-Cruz Post, Mascarinhas Village, Alto PM Hamlet, on August 1, 2025, one house destroyed by fire, emergency aid was given. In Lautem Municipality, Lospalos Post, Fuiluro Village, Lospala Hamlet, on July 30, 2025, one house was affected by fire in one room, emergency support was provided. In RAEOA, Pante Makassar Sub-region, Costa Village, Sanane Hamlet, on July 26, 2025, one house destroyed by fire in the kitchen, emergency assistance provided. And, in Viqueque Municipality, Uatu-Carbau Post, Afaloicai Village, Lakuhu Hamlet, on July 27, 2025, one house was damaged by strong wind and classified as moderately damaged.
Further explained that, up to now, victims of these natural disasters, with a total of 13 affected houses, have received emergency assistance from APC command and relevant partners stationed in each municipality. The support provided included food and non-food items. Operational command of APC in the municipalities continues to collect data on houses that were totally or partially damaged to proceed with further processes.
