Dili, October 15, 2025 (Média Democracia) — The Secretary of State for Equality (S.E.I), through the Head of the Legal Department of S.E.I, participated in a community dialogue organized by the Ministry of Interior in Lacão Village, Atsabe Administrative Post, Ermera Municipality, to share information on the prevention of gender-based violence and the Law Against Domestic Violence (LADV) with community leaders and local residents. This activity was reported by Média Democracia via S.E.I’s official page earlier this week.
During the dialogue, Ferina Varela, Head of the Legal Department at S.E.I, shared information about the Law Against Domestic Violence and the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence, aiming to raise awareness among young men and women in the community to help prevent domestic violence. She emphasized that domestic violence continues to be a serious social issue affecting women and other vulnerable groups.
“The goal of sharing information about these legal frameworks, particularly the Law Against Domestic Violence is to strengthen recommendations that can serve as key points for the work of the Ministry of Interior and S.E.I. This effort also aims to increase community awareness about the importance of unity, peace, and stability as essential elements for national development,” said Ferina Varela, Head of the Legal Department of S.E.I.
She further noted that the participation of S.E.I representatives in Lacão Village, together with community leaders, local residents, and youth, provided them with important knowledge regarding the Law Against Domestic Violence and Gender-Based Violence Prevention.
In conclusion, the Secretary of State for Equality (S.E.I), through its Legal Department, continues to share information with communities in Ermera Municipality about the prevention of gender-based violence and the Law Against Domestic Violence, to strengthen the role of community leaders and residents in creating safer and more equal communities.
