Dili, 15 May 2026 (Media Democracia) – Commission D, National Parliament, Holds Meeting Today and Approves Results of Meetings Held Over Seven (7) Days, Including Preparation for Public Hearing on the Industrial Property Law
According to Commission D member Manuel Noronha, the meeting started today. “We approved the meetings held so far, and today we approved the hearing meeting for the structured matters and for the industrial property law.” he said.
“Today we held a meeting on the hearings, from the initial preparations, and approved the summary of the meeting on the political protocol and the industrial property law. There is already a plan for hearings next week with the ministries and entities that need to be heard, the Government and entities regarding the industrial property law. After this, we will advance it to the plenary to schedule a vote and continue to the speciality stage.” said Commission D’s Manuel Noronha at the National Parliament on 13 May 2026.
He said Commission D also affirmed that this law will protect local products and ensure that products sold in Timor-Leste meet quality standards.
“For exports, we have already approved it, but we have handed it over to the Ministry and Government to handle. The important point is that the Government must control exports with clear standards. The important thing is the export law that already exists, and how the Government can control our exports so they meet standards. There must be standards so we can compete with foreign countries. Right now, we have many products that need to be exported.” he said.
Commission D asked the Government to carry out certification to ensure local products can compete in the international market, and urged the Government to do certification so these products can function well.
