TJPID applies preventive detention to suspects JACR and MZX in the Praia dos Cuqueiros case

Dili, June 12, 2026 (Media Democracia) – Dili District Court of First Instance (TJPID), through a ruling in the first interrogation hearing, decided to apply Preventive Detention (PP) to 2 suspects with initials JACR and MZX..

The 2 suspects were brought to court for allegedly being involved in 3 crimes: snatching a wallet at Praia Dos Coqueiros on Sunday night 07/06, which resulted in the death of Nadine Ribeiro do Carmo and injuries to Euodia Agile do Carmo.

The case involving the 2 suspects is registered under NUK: 0602/26.PNSIK.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) charged the 2 suspects with: Robbery under article 253, Negligent Assault under article 148, and Negligent Homicide under article 140 of Timor-Leste’s Penal Code.

Because of that, in the court ruling, Duty Judge Ivan Patrocenio decided to apply Preventive Detention (PP) to both suspects, considering there is strong evidence for the crimes the MP brought to court.

Meanwhile, in the MP’s allegations represented by Duty Prosecutor Aderito Tilman, he asked the court to apply Preventive Detention (PP) to both suspects.

Although from the defense side, Public Defender Fernando de Carvalho asked the court to consider other measures for the 2 suspects.

The first interrogation hearing was presided over by Duty Judge Ivan Patrocenio, with the Public Prosecutor represented by Prosecutor Aderito Tilman, and the 2 suspects received legal assistance from Public Defender Fernando de Carvalho.

After the decision, police executed the court’s ruling and took the 2 suspects to Becora Prison to serve the Preventive Detention measure the court had already decided.
