Dili, July 24, 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Art and Culture (MJDAK) received sports equipment support from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, with the objective of strengthening the development of the sports sector and giving young people in Timor-Leste the opportunity to participate in sports activities with better facilities. This support also strengthens cooperation between Timor-Leste and China in the areas of youth and sports.
According to the Minister of Youth, Sports, Art and Culture (MJDAK), Nelyo Isaac Sarmento, this sports equipment support is an important provision to promote and encourage children and youth to practice sports activities, especially football, in order to develop their talent and health.
“Today the sports equipment provided by the Chinese Government through its support will bring great benefits to children and youth groups who practice sports, especially football. This equipment will be used for training activities and athlete development. In addition, the support also includes boxing equipment, such as a boxing ring, and other facilities that coaches need to improve the quality of training.” said Minister MJDAK, Nelyo Isac Sarmento, to journalists at the MJDAK building, Bidau Lecidere, on Thursday, 23 July 2026.
He added that what is most important isn’t just looking at the quantity of equipment received, but at the commitment and support from the Chinese Government to contribute to the development of sports activities in Timor-Leste.
“This support is not just about the quantity of equipment received, but about the intention and commitment of the Chinese Government to support Timor-Leste in developing sports activities. This support also reflects their desire to help Timor-Leste create adequate sports facilities, especially for children and youth, so they can practice sports and prepare for a better future.” he said.
MJDAK also, on behalf of the People and Government of Timor-Leste, expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government for the sports equipment support given to Timor-Leste. He hopes that youth groups and athletes can use this equipment well and responsibly to contribute to sports development in the country.
