ADTL-UNICEF Facilitate Training For Persons With Disabilities

Dili, February 24, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Association of Disabled People of Timor-Leste (ADTL) in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) facilitated a four-day training for people with disabilities as a sister hall of ALMA.

ADTL Executive Director, Cesario da Silva said that this Education training was held for youth, teenagers and people with disabilities to increase their experience and insight.

“This training is a basic life training for teenagers, young people and people with disabilities, so this training ADTL collaborates with UNICEF and gets funding support from UNICEF to organize training for youth and teenagers, especially on life skills, emotional management and basic lessons for youth. This training was held because initially youth with disabilities lacked information, so one of ADTL’s programs is to provide training to youth, young people and people with disabilities.” Said the Executive Director of ADTL

He also said that this training had just been held in three municipalities such as Covalima, Bobonaru and Dili.

“This training has been conducted in two municipalities, namely Covalima and Bobonaru two weeks ago and now continues in Dili starting today, the target is 100 youth and teenagers who will participate in this training for four days. ADTL organizes this training in collaboration with UNICEF.” He said

On the other hand, UNICEF representative from Disability Consultant, José Manuel do Carmo said that this training is more specific about how to improve the abilities of people with disabilities.

“We call this training life skills education and this training is more specific on how to improve the capacity of people with disabilities, especially how to facilitate their friends who have not had the opportunity to have this ability,” he said.

He added that UNICEF was supported in this training and the training had many topics to facilitate for people with disabilities.

“UNICEF, which supports this training, ensures that everyone gets the same opportunity in the same training model, because in this training there will be many topics that will facilitate people with disabilities with the same topic of how to control emotions, how to empathize and sympathize.” He continued.

This training, UNICEF wants to ensure a good cooperation with ADTL and really hopes that this kind of training can also be applied at the academic level, because this training is the main target of training for people with disabilities, especially the community of people with disabilities. In addition, it also provides an opportunity for young non-disabled students to take part in this training to improve their respective insights and abilities.
