After Three Months, DCS-UNTL Students Complete Internship at Media Democracia

Dili, July 2, 2026 (Media Democracia) – Students from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FCSP), Department of Social Communication (DCS), Universidade Nasional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL), who carried out a three-month internship at Media Democracia, from April 1 to July 1, 2026, officially concluded their internship program today, July 2, 2026. The supervising lecturer withdrew the students after they completed the learning program.

According to Media Democracia Director Teresa V.F. Guterres, she expressed gratitude to the Universidade Nasional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL), through the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FSSP), Department of Social Communication (DCS), for trusting Media Democracia to host the student interns for their professional internship.

The Director affirmed that the internship program is very important to give students the opportunity to learn directly in a journalistic work environment, so they can complete their practical skills and increase knowledge about communication and journalism.” said Director Teresa Guterres, at Timor Lodge Comoro (02/07/26).

She also reaffirmed that during the internship period, the students were involved in news production processes, event coverage, conducting interviews, writing news, and learning journalistic ethics, with guidance from the Media Democracia team.

Cooperation between Media Democracia and UNTL can continue in the future to contribute to human resource development in the media sector, and prepare students to become professionals with high competence and responsibility.” she added.

She added that Media Democracia is committed to continuing to provide a learning space for students to develop their capacity and prepare for the world of work in communication and journalism.

Meanwhile, according to internship supervising professor from the Universidade Nasional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL), Francisco Mariano dos Santos, he expressed his gratitude to Media Democracia for accepting students from the Department of Social Communication (DCS), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FSSP), to carry out the internship program for three months.

The experience the students gained during the internship will help them become professionals ready to work in media institutions or other workplaces that need competence in communication and journalism.” he affirmed.

Professor Francisco Mariano dos Santos also extended his many thanks to Media Democracia for the cooperation and support provided during the internship program, and hopes that the good relationship between UNTL and Media Democracia can continue in the future.

After completing the three-month internship program, Media Democracia awarded certificates to four interns, mostly women, from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FSSP), Department of Social Communication (DCS), Universidade Nasional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL).

The certificate handover became a symbol of the good cooperation between Media Democracia and UNTL, through the Department of Social Communication, and hopes that this partnership can continue in the future to give opportunities to other students to learn and develop their professional capacity.

The certificate handover ceremony ended with a group photo between the Director, supervising lecturer, and the interns, as a sign of the strong working relationship and cooperation between the two institutions.
