Dili, 24 April 2026 (Media Democracia) – Rector of the Institute of Business (IOB), together with Trainers from Brunei, Launches English Course for the Public at IOB Dili This Wednesday (22/4)
The Rector of the Institute of Business (IOB), Pedro Bareto Ximenes, said that today, together with our partners from Brunei, they launched the English language program that IOB is cooperating on. This English course has received international recognition from the United Kingdom, England, which is called an “Irsen Certificate.”
“This training has a high qualification, and if they receive a certificate, that certificate is recognized not only in Timor but also in other countries connected to us. Let’s say, for example, they can go to Australia, Malaysia, and other countries that have connections with Commonwealth nations and still get recognition. That’s why today we launched the program, the course itself has different levels, composed of Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced level, each level has a duration of three (3) months, there are various components within it. He stated that this aims to open more opportunities for Timorese, especially for those who want to know English more deeply or obtain a more recognized certificate, they can come and register.
“We work together with our partners from Brunei and provide this course for students starting from age 15 up to 35 years old, they can come and register here, and there are no requirements, the important thing is knowing how to read and write, as long as the person has the will to learn, primary or secondary students, university students, can all just come. Our cooperation is for two (2) years, but the launch agreement is for one and a half years. We start first with English, then we will open other areas in the future, this course is open to everyone, for IOB students, for the public, for working people, for school students, anyone who wants in-depth training like a specialized English course can come and join the training here.” he said.
He emphasized that they do not want to accept too many students because each group will only accept a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 20 students, this is because we want to maintain small groups, and since the trainers come from abroad, we need to ensure the quality is good.
“The trainers are from the Philippines, Brunei those for whom English is their first language, but later we will also include other trainers. We already started registration today because we have done the launching, so starting tomorrow we are opening registration for students. Our hope is that by the beginning of May we can start the first group for students who want to join, If anyone wants to, they can come register there is still space,” said the IOB Rector.
The course will first accept two initial classes and do registration. There will be a placement test/exam to determine a person’s level so they can be allocated to the right level. The registration cost for the 3-month program is USD 200. If you want clearer details, you can check the brochure.
