Dili, June 10, 2026 (Media Democracia) – Portugal and Timor-Leste are strengthening their bilateral cooperation in strategic areas, including education, state reform, digitalization, and heritage.
According to the President of Camões I.P, Florbela Paraiba, at the meeting the parties discussed especially the promotion of the Portuguese language in Timor-Leste.
“Besides that, we will continue to provide support through the Portuguese School in Dili, the decentralized Education Center network (CAFE), as well as Higher University and Polytechnic Education. Those in Portugal want the opportunity to visit the National University of East Timor (UNTL). The discussion also covered areas under the responsibility of the Ministry of State Administration, such as digitalization, state reform, and modernization of Public Administration.” said the President of Camões, Florbela Paraiba, at the MAE Building, Caicoli (9/6/2026).
The President also affirmed that the meeting was productive and strengthened the commitment to continue working together in strategic and cross-cutting areas.
“In this context, we also reaffirm the importance of promoting the Portuguese language, which is an official language in Timor-Leste and an important part of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), as well as in Timor-Leste’s integration process into ASEAN.” she emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their thanks for the availability and commitment to continue strengthening the cooperation relationship between the two countries.
