Dili, 19 May 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Manufahi Youth Solidarity Center in Dili held a press conference to release data on floods and landslides that damaged houses, crops, and animals in Manufahi Municipality. It covers 4 Administrative Posts such as; Alas, Fatuberliu, Same, and Turiscai. They also called for support and solidarity for the victims.
According to spokesperson Manuel da Costa Mesquita, people should reach out to provide voluntary support and any kind of help, given the very difficult situation for those affected on the south coast.

We cannot stay silent and just watch the suffering they are facing right now. Therefore, through the Manufahi Youth Solidarity Center in Dili, we make an appeal and open our hearts to all of you to reach out and give urgent contributions. We really ask for your help with food items such as rice, instant products, sardines, and sugar; basic necessities such as good quality clothes for children and adults; soap, toothpaste, and sanitary pads for women, including basic medicines that are urgently needed on the ground.” said spokesperson Manuel da Costa.
He added that there are two types of natural disasters, landslides and floods. The floods mostly occurred around Same Vila, from Betano down to the south coast to Alas.

In Fatuberliu, erosion/landslides occurred in Same Vila, Daisua Village. According to provisional data we accessed from the Civil Protection Authority, there are 32 households temporarily displaced. The total households affected by flooding is 106, from Same all the way to Fatuberliu. This is provisional data accessed by the team from local authorities and the Civil Protection Authority.” he said.
Currently, according to the data and information available, victims have already received urgent assistance from the Civil Protection Authority (APC) and the Ministry of Social Solidarity (MSS), which have provided basic necessities. However, as Manufahi youth, we call on all Manufahi youth and we also do not close the door to the public whoever has the heart to help, let’s reach out to each other to ease the suffering they are facing.
In addition, we are in active contact with the Municipal Authority, Civil Protection Authority, and the Ministry of Social Solidarity. The data available has been received by Civil Protection, and the Ministry of Social Solidarity itself currently has staff still working in the field collecting data, so new data will continue to be updated.
