Dili, June 23, 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL) Operations Command of Dili Municipality has already received direct instructions from the PNTL General Command to begin preparing a security cooperation plan and operation to receive the late former President of the Republic Francisco Guterres ‘Lu-Olo’ at his Farol residence, and will conduct operations during the national mourning period for one week.
Dili Municipality PNTL National Police Operations Commander, Police Assistant Superintendent Luis Amaral said, they will follow the instructions that have been issued to conduct operations everywhere, especially for the World Cup which is currently ongoing, so PNTL will patrol without causing noise.
“According to the instructions that have been issued, we will conduct operations everywhere, especially for the World Cup games. We will continue to patrol, people can watch or attend but cannot make noise because this is our National Hero whom we all express our condolences for, to our father of the nation.” said Police Assistant Superintendent Luis Amaral to journalists at the late Francisco Guterres ‘Lu-Olo’s residence in Farol, Monday (22/02/2026).
He further affirmed that the Dili Municipal Command is ready to receive instructions from the Government and also the General Command to stop activities carried out in Dili during the week.
PNTL Operations Command asks young people to watch the World Cup games but not to make noise.
“I ask young people to watch the World Cup games but not to make noise, because this is a national mourning period decreed by the Council of Ministers so that everyone remains calm for one week.” he affirmed.
Police have a duty to inform the community that if they play music, lower the volume, do not turn it up loud, and for karaoke places in Dili, security will also go down and conduct operations at those places.
