Dili, 21 May 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Polísia Nasionál Timor-Leste (PNTL) successfully provided maximum security for the 24th anniversary commemoration of Independence Restoration Day, based on the security plan of the Dili Municipality Command. The event at Tasi-Tolu ran very smoothly.
According to Assistant Police Commissioner Orlando Gomes, the 24th anniversary commemoration of Independence Restoration Day at Tasi-Tolu went very well.
“We involved PNTL members in the security plan for the 24th anniversary commemoration of Independence Restoration Day at Tasi-Tolu, and it went very well.” said the Dili Municipality PNTL Commander, Assistant Police Commissioner Orlando Gomes, to journalists during the 24th anniversary commemoration of Independence Restoration Day at Tasi-Tolu on Wednesday (20/05/26).
He stated that security for the Independence Restoration Day commemoration was supported by the Special Police Unit (UEP) and the Maritime Police Unit (UPM), Dili Municipality Traffic Police, as well as support from FALINTIL-Forsa Defeza Timor-Leste (F-FDTL).
“We ensured that today’s ceremony ran very well, although there was a bit of traffic congestion, we normalized it again so movement went smoothly. The security situation from last night until the commemoration of this important day ran well, thanks also to the support of our youth and the many community members present here.” said the Dili Municipality PNTL Commander.
He added that during the celebration Independence Restoration Day, youth and the community also contributed and supported security efforts to ensure the situation remained safe and successful throughout the celebration of this important day.
At the same location, Gilberto dos Santos, a youth representative, stated that the situation during the 24th anniversary celebration of Independence Restoration Day at Tasi-Tolu ran very well because of maximum security provided by the PNTL and F-FDTL.
“First, congratulations to Timor-Leste, today we celebrate the 24th anniversary of Independence Restoration, and we see the situation is peaceful because of maximum security from our PNTL and F-FDTL.” he said.
According to observations by Media Democracia journalists on the ground, from preparations until the Independence Restoration Day celebration in the capital Dili ran very well, the community and youth showed a spirit of nationalism and contributed to peace and stability on this major day. The situation ran well and peacefully with security support from the Polísia Nasionál Timor-Leste and FALINTIL-Forsa Defeza Timor-Leste, and concluded successfully.
