Dili, September 8, 2026 (Media Democracia) – The President of the Court of Appeal, Afonso Carmona, said that the Court of Appeal has budgeted $4 million to build the District Courts in six Municipalities.
He explained that right now the Court of Appeal has already laid the first stone for the future construction of the District Court buildings in Viqueque, Baucau, Ermera, and Bobonaro. Suai and Oe-Cusse will follow soon.
“From these constructions, for each District Court in the six Municipalities we have budgeted four million.” President of the Court of Appeal Afonso Carmona told journalists in Tasi-Tolu on Monday.
He said that next year the Court of Appeal will continue to focus on building District Courts in the five Municipalities that don’t yet have them.
“This is because based on the Judicial Organization Law it states that District Courts must be established in all municipalities. That’s why now we plan to establish six District Courts. We have 13 Municipalities, but Dili is already established. So next year we will continue to budget funds to establish District Courts in six Municipalities.” he informed.
He added that because this is the Court’s work, there’s no need to worry the construction process is already underway.
“This idea is part of the Government’s program. That’s why we started the physical first stone laying. Now that we have launched it, the work has already begun.” he said.
