Two Songs Accompany the Final Homage to the Late Lú-Olo at the FRETILIN Central Committee

Dili, June 29, 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Late Francisco Guterres Lú-Olo made his final visit to the FRETILIN Central Committee (CCF), in a ceremony filled with deep sadness. During the homage, two songs were also played that carry a profound message, inviting those present to reflect on life, the struggle, and the legacy that the deceased left for the FRETILIN Party and the people of Timor-Leste.

The Secretary-General of the FRETILIN Party, Mari Alkatiri, said that the final homage to the Late Francisco Guterres ‘Lú-Olo’, with the two songs performed during the ceremony, gave everyone the opportunity to deeply reflect on the lyrics of the songs. The songs carry a message about life, unity, and the legacy that the deceased left for the people of Timor-Leste.

What we heard today from the two songs gives us time to reflect that ‘For me to transform, for me to develop, because the people are still waiting for us.”  said Mari Alkatiri, in his final speech after paying homage to the Late Lú-Olo at the CCF in Komoro, Friday (26/06).

He continued that the song shows that Maubere remains first for everyone. Each person should follow the deceased’s simplicity, because the song’s message and words are truly beautiful.

Mari Alkatiri added that the deceased was someone who came from a simple family, and he was a pure person who rejected corruption.

We all know Lú-Olo was a leader who came from a simple family, how to love everyone. That is why he became a pure leader who rejected corruption. So when the two of us first met in Aileu Remesio when I arrived from abroad, I said this leader truly comes from the people of Timor-Leste. So the interaction between the two of us had many experiences but the same values. That is why the interaction bound the two of us closely until God called him.” Alkatiri said.

He further stated that, based on Comrade the Late Lú-Olo’s simplicity and honesty toward the people, when he passed away and left the world, the elderly, people with disabilities, and the people came to see and pay homage.

I have never seen this before, but how someone like President Lú-Olo, when he passed away and left the world, his strength came fully. This shows the people knew he was someone who defended the people. That is why the elderly went there to see their leader for the last time. That is what I saw with my own eyes.” he said.

In addition, for the FRETILIN Secretary-General, he feels the weight, but he is ready to face all situations, because Lú-Olo left the burden on his shoulders.

I am ready to face this situation, and I must accept it to continue his mission for the future to lift the people out of poverty. So I ask you to respect what Comrade Lú-Olo left for us, so that we all make a deep reflection to know what is ahead. That is what is most important” he said.

The former Prime Minister asked everyone not to blame each other, but for everyone to come together to lift the people out of hardship.
