UNMICS Identifies 5 Municipalities Experiencing Severe Malnutrition

Dili, March 10, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Mission Unit for Combat “Stunning” (UNMICS) identified 5 municipalities with high sub-nutrient taxes totaling 47%.

In an interview with Joel Maria Pereira as UNMICS Executive Director, he said that data shows that 47% of the 2020 surveys conducted in Ermera, Ainaru, Raeoa, Aileu and Bobonaru were known as food surveys.

“Based on 2020 data, we stated that the five municipalities with the highest prevalence is Ermera with 63% and four other municipalities such as Ainaro, Raeoa, Aileu and Bobonaru are 47% based on UNMICS nutrition survey research in Timor-Leste.” Executive Director, Joel Maria Pereira said

On the other hand, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Gil da Cruz, supported the UNMICS program to engage farmers in Timor-Leste to work together so that they can combat malnutrition that has been identified by UNMICS.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries provides support to this unit to bring them together to discuss an action plan on how to reduce malnutrition through the creation of good products or foods for the consumption of the Timorese people that can be healthy,” said Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Gil da Cruz.

This annual joint assessment workshop was attended by development partners and ministry officials involved in this event.
