Dili, 18 April 2026 (Media Democracia) – The National Police of Timor-Leste, through the Vera Cruz Squad Command, has secured a Chinese citizen with the initials A who made a statement on his social media account regarding counterfeit money that DSIK seized at the Bidau Masaur Warehouse on Wednesday (15/04/2026).
At 10:00 in the morning, a plainclothes team secured the citizen at his residence in Bairro Pité and immediately took him to the Vera Cruz squad to give a statement. After identification, he was immediately taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Services office at PNTL General Headquarters, Caicoli, for the investigation process.
On this occasion, PNTL Spokesperson, Police Chief Superintendent João Belo dos Reis, said the Chinese citizen is currently at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Services to give a statement regarding the video in which he explained about the counterfeit money.
“Today we called this citizen in, we are conducting a separate process for him because of the publication he made.” João Belo told journalists via a press conference held at PNTL General Headquarters, Caicoli, this Thursday.
The Chief Superintendent said whether Citizen A has a connection to the counterfeit money or not is still under investigation.
“Once again, I cannot go too deep into that because it is part of judicial secrecy and it would not be good, so for more detail, those who feel it is incorrect can justify it in court.” he informed.
Meanwhile, João Belo affirmed that the citizen who made the viral video was called by police for identification to ask about his knowledge and connection to the counterfeit money.
“We called him in to ask about his knowledge regarding this area and how he is connected, we have already asked him for information.” he concluded.
