Dili, 02 June 2026 (Media Democracia) – Defense Minister Rear Admiral Donaciano Gomes do Rosário “Pedro Klamar Fuik” was decorated by the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, Fleet Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, who, by virtue of his authority, decided to award the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces Merit Medal.
The decoration ceremony took place after the Brazilian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Ricardo Real, met with his counterpart, Defense Minister Rear Admiral Donaciano do Rosário da Costa Gomes “Pedro Klamar Fuik,” at the Ministry of Defense in Fatuhada on Monday (01/6).
The purpose of the decoration ceremony was to hold the solemn presentation of the Brazilian Joint Staff of the Armed Forces Merit Medal to Rear Admiral Donaciano Gomes, Minister of Defense of Timor-Leste.
The Joint Staff of the Armed Forces Merit Medal was established by Decree No. 8,554 of November 6, 2015, and regulated by Brazilian Ministry of Defense Ordinance No. 5,424 of October 27, 2022.
This medal is intended to honor military and civilian personnel, both Brazilian and foreign, as well as military organizations and national civilian institutions that have provided relevant service to the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces.
“We invite His Excellency the Minister of Defense of Timor-Leste to take the place prepared for the presentation of this decoration. We also invite His Excellency the Ambassador of Brazil to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Ricardo José Lustosa Leal, and His Excellency Army General Alceu Alves Almeida Costa to carry out the presentation of the medal.” said Brazilian Defense Attaché to Timor, Colonel Vitor Hugo Bergamachi, in the Ministry of Defense bilateral hall this Monday.
After the decoration ceremony, Defense Minister Rear Admiral Donaciano do Rosário da Costa Gomes “Pedro Klamar Fuik” expressed his respect to the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces for the high decoration that was conferred upon him today.
“I receive this with humility, conscious of what this tribute means as an expression of trust. This medal isn’t only a personal recognition for me, but also represents the values of duty, discipline, institutional commitment, and dedication in service to the greater cause between us. And this medal is a symbol of the bonds of friendship, respect, and cooperation between the peoples of our two countries and between our institutions.” he said.
Defense Minister Donaciano affirmed that the awarding of this medal also strengthens the relationship between the two nations, which has existed for a long time and has progressed together with responsibility, providing guidance and contributing to a mission that fulfills common objectives.
“With this, I express my gratitude. I accept this honor with my heart, and I see this recognition as a double responsibility. For me, this medal isn’t an endpoint, but rather a permanent stimulus to continue serving with loyalty and a sense of duty, to further strengthen peace and cooperation between our two countries, Timor-Leste and Brazil.” he emphasized.
Furthermore, Defense Minister Rear Admiral Donaciano do Rosário da Costa Gomes “Pedro Klamar Fuik” expressed his deep gratitude to Brazil for offering the medal.
“This will further demonstrate the institutional relationship between the two countries. For me, this is a great honor because the Brazilian Government recognizes an institution, and this is mutual respect that looks beyond the value of service in fulfilling honor. Thank you to the General and to everyone present here.” Pedro Klamar Fuik concluded.
