Dili, June 22, 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Timor-Leste Press Council (CI-TL) facilitated Fact-Checking training for 24 national journalists on how AI impacts journalists’ work.
In his speech, Press Council Executive Director António Dias said that today’s activity brings everyone together in one place to reach out to each other with a training theme that is important in the life of journalism to provide information online.
“We at least want this group to become a group that is responsible for ensuring that we get good sources and data that has already been obtained so that we can share that data with consumers with quality information.” said Director António Dias
He added that journalists should make good use of their journalistic skills, they know what is needed and they should use this opportunity during the five days to take advantage of good topics to become professional journalists, and he also hopes that the journalists will follow the training until it is finished.
On this occasion, Interim Press Council President, Suzana Bui-Rai Carlota Cardoso said that training on Fake Checking is very important in the era of digitalization and hopes this training can help journalists’ products.
“Especially for journalistic investigations that we have already carried out in Maubisse, also connected, and then two weeks ago there was training on writing Features, so this has good potential, how you can interpret news, for your products with the message or information that you collect.” said Interim PC President Suzana
She said that once they follow this training they can apply it in the workplace so that they can implement it based on the data and facts that we have and the truth.
