Dili, September 7, 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL), Dili Municipality through the Nain Feto Police Sub-station held a dialogue with the community in Bidau Lecidere Village, Lecidere Hamlet, with the objective of bringing the relationship between PNTL and the community closer, and of working together to find good ways to resolve social problems that occur in the community.
According to information obtained by Média Demokrasia from the official PNTL page, the dialogue was held because of an incident that occurred in the early hours, around 05:00, in Lecidere Hamlet, Bidau Lecidere Village. In connection with that incident, PNTL approached the community and the parties involved to promote communication, understanding and seek solutions that can help prevent the escalation of conflict.
Chief Police Inspector Julio Maia made an appeal to the community to remain calm, avoid actions that could worsen the problem, and give space for the legal process to proceed in accordance with the law. Therefore, PNTL also encourages the community to use dialogue and communication mechanisms as the main way to resolve differences and social problems.
He emphasized that security and stability in the community require shared responsibility between the police and citizens. For that reason, cooperation and communication between PNTL and the community are important factors to prevent conflict, protect public safety and ensure a peaceful environment.*From the results of the dialogue, the parties agreed to accept one another again and continue to live together with a spirit of peace, respect and tolerance, while the legal process for the case that occurred will continue according to the procedures in force.
Regarding this case, the victim will file a complaint in the coming days to allow the competent authorities to complete the criminal procedure in accordance with the law. PNTL will continue to carry out the investigation process and ensure that the case is handled based on evidence, legal procedure and the principle of justice.
Chief Police Inspector Julio Maia reaffirmed the commitment to continue to get closer to the community through dialogue, prevention and cooperation, to strengthen security and peace in communities. Therefore, PNTL also appeals to the community to support the authorities and to bring problems forward through legal channels, in order to avoid conflict and ensure that justice can proceed properly.
