Dili, 27 May 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Ministry of Defense will install the military hospital that was signed last year. The construction protocol between China and Timor-Leste will begin its construction process this year.
According to the Minister of Defense, Rear Admiral, Donaciano da Costa Gomes “Pedro Klamara Fuik” the installation for the military hospital that was signed last year is moving forward.
“As you all know, the installation of the China-Timor-Leste Friendship Hospital, or what we call the military hospital, for which we signed the construction protocol last year, as I’ve said repeatedly, this year it will start the construction process. Soon the technicians will arrive here.” said Pedro Klamar Fuik to journalists at the Ministry of Finance in Aitarak-Laran on Tuesday.
Donaciano informed that 10 technicians from China will come and stay for one month to conduct studies so that the design can begin.
“So they will prepare the design and consult with our government and some other technicians who are needed, in order to then define the model, the structure, and all the conditions needed for this hospital. After the design is ready, they will return with the prepared design so that a decision can be made on when to start construction.” he stated.
He said the Military Hospital is a donation from the Chinese government to the Timor-Leste government, or one could say from the Chinese people to the people of Timor-Leste.
The official guaranteed that construction of the military hospital will start this year and will be inaugurated in 2027, at the latest in 2028.
Meanwhile, the site where construction will take place is within the Defense Military compound. There have been some claims from individuals, but he said it can be resolved because the Military Hospital will be built for the good of many people and for what they want.
