Dili, June 20, 2026 (Media Democracia) – The Archives and Museum of Timor-Leste Resistance, Public Institute (AMRT, I.P) officially launched the “History of the Timorese People’s Struggle” Magazine, in the context of commemorating National Children’s Day. This launch is AMRT’s effort to spread the story of the national liberation struggle to the new generation, especially to children and students.
In his speech, the Executive Director of the Archives and Museum of Timor-Leste Resistance (AMRT.IP) Jorge Alves “Wemoris” said the speech focused more on Timor-Leste’s history and reminded the youth about Timor-Leste’s history.
“Today I invited the Café School, EPD School, Farol School, and Mota School. Today what is focused on here, in the Timor-Leste History School, is to remind the youth about Timor-Leste’s history. And, besides that, I also invited international youth from EPD School, Café School, Farol School, and also, congratulations to the late Prime Minister Netinho, who passed away at 80 years old.” said Executive Director Jorge Alves in the AMRT.IP Hall, Friday (19/06).
At the same venue, the Curriculum Coordinator of the Ministry of Education João Maupelu said, the launch of this magazine is very important because it can help students know the history of the past and how to put it into practice for teachers to use lessons to teach children for a better future.
“History isn’t just to be read in the museum according to information from Café School and those in Dili who have lessons about history. Teachers should find time to visit, read books, come here, they can watch some films, our instructors can explain better so they can know more deeply.” said João Maupelu.
On the other hand, the representative of the Portuguese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Ana Pereira said this activity is very important because it can preserve the history of the nation of Timor-Leste, which the museum is doing very important work to preserve this nation’s history.
“This is important to involve children, because children are the future and it is important for them to have access to culture and access to history, because if there is one thing the current context tells us, it is that we cannot forget our past and we must learn from it, there are many lessons to be learned from the past.” said Ana Pereira.
In the speech, Executive Director of the Archives and Museum of Timor-Leste Resistance (AMRT.IP) Jorge Alves “Wemoris” hopes that through this magazine, the new generation can know the values of sacrifice, patriotism and the spirit of resistance of the Timorese people to continue to defend the nation in the future.
