Angola Continues to Strengthen Cooperation with Timor-Leste in the Area of Defense

Dili, 02 June 2026 (Media Democracia) – Defense Minister Rear Admiral Donaciano do Rosário Gomes “Pedro Klamar Fuik” received an audience with Angolan Defense Minister João Ernesto dos Santos to express readiness to continue strengthening military cooperation with Timor-Leste.

As you all know, Angola is a friendly country, a brother country in our history of independence. In the past it was always together with us, helped us, and after independence has also always been with us, helping us and providing support to establish cooperation for the development of the armed forces.” Defense Minister Pedro Klamar Fuik told journalists after receiving Angolan Defense Minister João Ernesto dos Santos in the Bilateral Meeting Room of the Ministry of Defense, Fatuhada this Monday.

The presence of Angolan Defense Minister João Ernesto dos Santos in Timor-Leste is aimed at participating in the 25th Meeting of Defense Ministers held in Dili.

The Minister has come back on this occasion to participate in the meeting.” he said.

The official stated that on this occasion he and his counterpart discussed the renewal of the cooperation framework portfolio between Angola and Timor-Leste that already exists.

We also reviewed the portfolio related to the cooperation that will be signed soon for cooperation between the two countries, between Timor-Leste and Angola.” he affirmed.

In the same place, Angolan Defense Minister João Ernesto dos Santos said he arrived in Dili yesterday to participate in the 25th CPLP Defense Ministers’ Meeting, and also to hold dialogue with the Timor-Leste Armed Forces, specifically with the Ministry of Defense.

In today’s meeting we talked about revising the existing cooperation agreement, because time has passed. We all know the dynamics of life and also the international geopolitical situation that keeps changing. Therefore, we have an obligation to adjust our steps so that we aren’t left behind.” said Minister João Ernesto dos Santos.

 

He said that in the Angola–Timor-Leste military cooperation framework agreement, they will redefine the things that need to be improved.

After that, move to implementation for the good of our people, our territorial integrity, and for the community of Portuguese-speaking peoples.” he concluded.
